Certifying the Truth
Personally, I haven't had the experience of someone asking me to make up some medical certification of an illness so that they may have an excused absence from school or work. But I've seen it happen.
However, the tough part is when you know they're telling the truth but due to their illness they were unable to see you while they were sick. Medical Certifications only account for what the signing physician actually saw and examined. A consultation after a period of ...

Give it to me straight... but not that straight!
While in training to become a doctor or a specialist, one has the "license" to make mistakes. It is the same as in any field of expertise, while you're in training you can make errors and learn from them because you have your mentors looking after you. What's in a name? A lot, apparently. I won't go on about the

I've always found the nomenclature of medical maladies interesting. When I was in med school I always wondered about such supposedly trivial things.
So
why is German Measles "German"? To make a long story short, a German physician first described it and thu...

A Positive Twist
We were taught pretty early on that as doctors we need to gain patients' trust to get the best and most relevant information out of them in order to help them appropriately. It seemed easy enough at first but after a few patients one begins to realize just how difficult it can be sometimes. No two patients are the same. I've gone as far as acting like a clown to get a patient to like me (not that it wasn't fun, because it was).
Of course, every now and then we have t...

Back in med school, I wondered a lot about the words we use to instruct our patients. "Take"! "Instill"! "Reconstitute!" As if doctor's instructions weren't confusing enough. Fortunately, I have yet to encounter a patient who misunderstood my instructions enough to become a pharmacy thief.

Looks like another year has passed and it's
Dialogue Free Comics Day once more! Organized annually by
Noel Curry, he explains "Dialogue Free Comics Day" as follows:
"Too often, when writing webcomics I forget that this is
primarily a visual artform and so to emphasise that, I’ve set myself the challenge of posting a dialogue free comic on that day..."
I've contributed every year so far and yet it's still hard to kick the...

Did you know?
The device Dr. Rianne Nicah is using to correct errors of refraction in a patient's vision (e.g. near or far-sightedness) is called a "Phoropter"!
The chart a patient looks at with lines of seemingly random letters is called a "Snellen's Chart".
